Dragonflies and Damselflies
Dragonflies and damselflies belong to the aquatic insect order or group known as Odonata. They are one of the oldest inhabitants of the earth dating back to over 250 million years. They are generally found near all kinds of inland waters including ponds, rivers, streams and also marshes and swamps. Usually the presence of odonates is a good indicator of the quality of the ecosystem.
This site is a basic (work in progress) photographic guide to the Dragonflies and damselflies found in India.
