Common Banded Awl

Name Common Banded Awl
Scientific Name Hasora chromus
Location Eastern Ghats
Identification This awl, found in the hilly forests of peninsular India, is the commonest of the large skippers. It is a dark brown butterfly with a fat thorax and pointy fore wings and gets its description from the clear white band at the centre of the underside of its wings. This skipper managed to trouble us a fair bit with its refusal to sit on anything but an unphotogenic wall.
