Common Rose

Name The Common Rose
Scientific Name Pachliopta aristolochiae
Location KBR Park, Hyd.
Notes

The Common Rose is widely distributed and can be found across most parts of Asia. It is often seen in parks and gardens and is one of the commonest swallowtails in India. It flies quite high and descends on flowers for nectar.

The larvae of the Common rose feed on the poisonous creepers and vines of the genus Aristolochia. These toxins are stored in their bodies and make the adult butterflies inedible. Hence they are rarely attacked by predators despite their slow flight.
